Dale Watson & Jesse Dayton 7-21 & 7-22-06

Friday, July 21st...Sister K and I joined the "wrecking crew" at Borski's http://www.borskis.com/ in Willis for a Dale Watson show. All of the regulars were there and a few new ones also joined us. Needless to say, I had toooo many beers and so did several others. With the price of ice cold Lone Star beer at $9.00 for a bucket of six, who could resist? They had a good sized crowd, I managed to dance to a couple of tunes and I also DID NOT jump on the stage with the band this time for lack of controlling my enthusiasm. I did catch myself screaming to the band which song to play next, though...Dale encourages it so I do it.
Saturday, July 22nd...Sister K and I started out by going to that yuppie place, The Armadillo Palace http://www.thearmadillopalace.com/ to see Jesse Dayton. www.jessedayton.com It seems that this place is always having private parties for people that take up half the bar which sucks. Majority of the time, these people could careless if a band was playing or not. They're too busy chit chatting among themselves and drinking expensive shots to even notice or care that they guys in the band are playing for THEM. Of course, the place is packed elbow to asshole and not a table to be had anywhere so we had to sit on the most uncomfortable bar stools on the planet. They're shaped like some kind of saddle which in my eyes should be comfortable but are positioned wrong on the base which makes you feel as if you're falling off the bar stool at all times. Everytime I go there, I swear I'm never going back again but I always do...dammit!!!
We left from the Armadillo around 11 or so and headed over to the Continental Club www.continentalclub.com to see Dale Watson www.dalewatson.com again. He's been on hiatus in Maryland for awhile so we always try to catch his shows when he's in the area. I only drank one beer that night since my stomach wasn't cooperating with the rest of my body due to the abuse from the night before. Good times, good shows...

Steely Dan ~ Friday, July 14th

Write this one down...I finally went to another show other than country. I went to the Cynthia Woods Pavillion with Sister K and saw Steely Dan. There were a bunch of old fools there...yep. I only saw one person that I recognized and I didn't speak to him...

Dale Watson's new CD...

Dale Watson, Whiskey or God (Palo Duro)Anybody with a tender spot for honky-tonk singers probably already knows about Dale Watson. He's now on hiatus in Baltimore, but Whiskey or God is a super stopgap. The barroom weepers are as brilliant as ever, but the novelties hold up, too, especially "Heeah!!!" -- a memorable ode to those crotchety neighbors of our youth.

Jarrod Birmingham @ Blanco's 7-13-06

Sister K and I went to Blanco's last night to see Jarrod Birmingham and had a great time. We got there just as the band started and actually was able to get a table and a couple of chairs rather than stand all night. The only thing that I don't like about Blanco's is the crowd of yuppies that turn out for the shows. They expect a band that has several CD's under their belt to play cover tunes all night long and that really sucks since they've got some music that's damn good and danceable. During the break, Dan Johnson the steel guitar player, graced us with his presence and told us some funny stories about himself, Jarrod's band and some really funny stuff that happened when he was in Hank Williams III's band. www.hank3.com We got on the bus after the show and partied for awhile but then it was time to go...I wasn't feeling well from the Jagermeister. All in all, a good time was had by everyone. The crowd was dancing and drinking and raising hell.
