Damn I've been lazy/busy lately...

I know, I know. I haven't been posting all of the shows that I went to see & I know you're anxious to know what's been going on in my life. ha I'll start with last night & then go backwards & see what I can actually remember...

2-8-07 Big Texas Dancehall in Webster/Clear Lake...I went to see Jarrod Birmingham with Friend D. It was her 39th birthday and we had a good time. The Miller Girls were there and we scored a couple of free beers and some stupid flashing blue lights shaped like Texas. woohoo
Dan wasn't with the band last night due to personal family problems (I know the lowdown...call me for details...smile) & Jarrod was worried about how they'd sound without him but I think they did a pretty good job. Friend D had a good birthday and thoroughly enjoyed Jarrod as did I. He's such a nice guy & always speaks to me like we're old friends...

2-2-07 Sister K and I actually made 2 shows that night. First we went to see Jesse Dayton and some chicks name that I can't recall over @ the Mucky Duck. Eric Tucker (the drummer) got us in for free so we couldn't pass up a chance to see Jesse. The show was an early one so afterwards, we headed over to the Firehouse Saloon to see Jason Boland & the Stragglers. The place was packed elbow to asshole & was sold out. NO! NO! NO! We "HAD TO" get in to see him. We drove around the block about 20 times until we finally found a parking place and had to wait for people to leave before we could get in. We only missed a couple of songs but were elated that we got in. I ran into RR's g/f Chrissy and we headed to the bar for a shot on her tab. I offered up first but since she already had one open, hers got sacrificed. THEN...the story gets kinda blurry but I'll tell what I can remember...somehow we went backstage w/Chrissy and drank beer with people that I didn't know....their beer. After the show, I followed Chrissy onto the bus and proceed to drink/smoke til I was sick and left my purse on the bus. For all I know, my purse was in Kansas City last night without me. Monty is supposed to mail it back to me but who really knows...

2-1-07 Sister K and I headed out to Big Texas/Spring to see Matt Martindale. I don't know what Matt is actually trying to accomplish, but their 1st show together as a band sounded a helluva lot like Cooder Graw. Matt told me that they hadn't had a chance to practice much together but Charlie Shaftner is in the band & he obviously covers Cooder Graw tunes. I must say that when Charlie sang "Ugly Angel" it put a different ring on the tune...Matt needs to let Charlie sing that song & he needs to sing backup. Sorry but that's the brutal truth...

1-28-07 This was not my idea but an idea of Sister K's to drive to Gruene Hall to see Jesse Dayton after drinking gallons of beer the night before. The thought of drinking a beer almost made me nauseous but it was a free show & she was driving so what the hell! I slept part of the way there and a little sleep actually made me feel better. It was cold but we managed to get there a little early and go down to the Guadalupe to check out the water level...didn't look good. Low, very low. For a Sunday afternoon, he drew a good sized crowd. After the show (I'm trying like hell to get the fuck outta there) Eric Tucker sees us and we stop and talk to him for a few minutes. He's recently moved back into the area (Richmond) and wanted to tell us about it. Why, I don't know... Anyway, he asked if we drove all the way from Houstoned to see them and yes, we did. So he offers to get us into the show Friday @ the Mucky Duck for free...we take him up on that offer. Talk about a nice guy...

1-20-07 Friend A met up with me @ the house and we headed over to the Armadillo Palace to see Jarrod Birmingham. Friend J met us there and they both enjoyed the band that night. Neither had ever heard of or seen Jarrod before but Friend A managed to get a free CD from Jarrod. And of course, I talked plenty of shit to anyone that would listen...smile.

1-13-07 This was one of the strangest shows I 'd been to in a long time The music was strange (not strange in a bad way) and the people there, well I'm not sure what was wrong with the crowd. The only thing I could come up with was that they were drinking cough medicine & eating pills or something because I saw several people being dragged away from the stage and someone puked in the middle of the floor. The Unknown Hinson draws quite a crowd @ the Continental Club. Friend Y and I found that out that night...I'd heard of him before from Hank III's message board but never seen him. I stood in front of the stage about 4-5 people deep and watched with my mouth wide open.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ4cDigFx5U Check out the hair and sideburns and you'll know why my mouth hung open... Saw a few friends there also that night...one roller derby girl that I think was on the cough medicine, Friend C from Baton Rouge, LA and Friend J from Pasadena. No, they weren't on the cough medicine...

1-12-07 I met up with some friends from the Hank III message board & went to Ugly's to see the U Joints. Warren met us @ the door (Friend Y & I) and got us in for free. Most of the time, free is a good thing and tonight it was especially good since I was near broke but I somehow managed to get a good beer buzz. The band was hot and loud and sounding better each time that I see them. I also ran into an old high school classmate...Friend M and the LA folks were there also. I had a good time with all of my friends, old and new.

12-28-06 - Sister K and I went to the Continental Club to see a band from Austin called Honky. We'd never seen them before and I was so enthused that I bought a t-shirt and a CD for Cousin B. I'm pretty sure that he'll love them and want to come to Houston or Austin to see them for himself.

12-22-06 - I went to see my friends tonight. Cooder Graw will be breaking up at the end of the year and Matt will be doing his own thing. I'm quite heartbroken over this and hope all goes well for them in their new adventures. I only cried once...during my favorite song, Motel Lights. Hopefully some band that I follow will start covering that tune....
