When RadioFreeTexas went on the air in March of 2005 there was no fanfare and no big splash. We just started playing the best damned music in the world. At first a few people discovered us by accident. Then those people told some people who told some people who told some people. And the telling hasn't stopped since. The facts do not lie. RadioFreeTexas has been responsible for introducing thousands of people to the Texas/Red Dirt music scene. And the listeners have been responsible for introducing those thousands to RadioFreeTexas. The key ingredient to our success has been you - the avid fan and listener.At first, it was "random acts of promotion" spurred by a love for the music and the station by the listeners. This was the beginnings of our street team and the origin of the Radio Free Texas Rangers. As we saw this trend continue, we set out to develop a way to organize those who wanted to let others know about RFT and the Texas/Red Dirt scene and wanted to support both. We also wanted to find a way to reward those committed individuals for their actions. For months we scratched our heads, researched, asked questions and planned.
